Ostrov

"Ostrov" in Russian means "island". Long ago this town in Pskov oblast was a fortress on the island in the Velikaya river. Only the 16th century Saint Nicholas church remains on the site of the former fortification.

Two absolutely magnificent chain bridges are thrown to the former fortress island from both banks.

They were built in 1853.

And recently were restored.

Soon there will be a feast on the bridge. The spider got a mayfly in his web.

The most of the pre-revolutionary building was destroyed during the WWII, but something remained. Cathedral of the Life-Giving Trinity (1786-1790) on the main square in front of the bridges.

The building of technical school built during WWI.

The former Church of the Intercession (1798). Its dome and bell tower were demolished in 1959.

A funny Soviet-era inscription on the post office building: "Use communication services!" Such "advertising" was widespread: for example, "Fly with Aeroflot aircrafts". As if the citizens had any choice.

I see faces.

Female finch.

The supporter of a Russian military operation in Ukraine with an additional inscription which says "A magnet for women".

Former Lutheran church (1905) occupied by the investigative committee.

And an abandoned Catholic church built in the same 1905.

An Ostrovets cat is jaywalking.

The Zherebtsovo manor on the banks of the Velikaya River (1760) with a completely insane colonnade.

The riverside portico unfortunately has been lost. Only fragments of the decor have survived.

It is now occupied by a local technical school.

View from the estate to the chain bridges.

In conclusion, I cannot pass by the steel doors of Pskov oblast, whose range extends to the Ostrov. "Lentil" decorates the grocery store.

The former Lutheran church.

And the manor.
