A very brief visit to one of the oldest Russian cities. As in Velikiy Novgorod there will be an old church dating 14-16th century near every crossing and in every yard.
However the image of the city is determined not by churches but by the ugly metal doors which adorn the entrance to the most of the apartment blocks, governmental buildings, schools, churches etc. This is the main feature of the Pskov oblast. In other regions of Russia, such gloomy metal doors are also common, but a specific "lentil" pattern is found only in Pskov.
Pedestrian Pushkin street.
Some recently restored pre-revolutionary and costructivist buildings.
Souvenir shop and a small museum in Menshikov's chambers (17th century) didn't survive the covid pandemic.
The local rock-club offers entrance without QR-codes but reminds to "wear a mask".
Getting in (as of July 2022): as for car it is a bit exhausting both from Saint Petersburg and Moscow. In 2022 after the suspension of flights to Europe a lot of planes were redirected to serve the local airport, so flying may be the best option. Also consider the night train.
Where to eat: The Mama Roma restaurant on Octyabrskiy avenue.
