Yaroslavl

See also: the previous report (February 2023).

A new power support in the shape of a bear with a polearm (as on Yaroslavl coat of arms) on Moskovsky avenue. It changes color in the dark.

In general, Yaroslavl has pleasantly changed for the better over the year. For example, architectural illumination appeared almost everywhere in the center.

Transport reform has begun in the city. It features many new buses in a yellow livery with a compulsory bear on the side.

Scooters become a nuisance.

Tourist navigation has appeared in the center, routes on pedestrian streets are marked with a bear's paw (this paw is very slippery in winter, be careful not to step on it).

Street art.

The Vakhromeev estate, which burned down on September 9, 2023. At first it was rumored that some saboteur had set it on fire (the building used to be a military registration and enlistment office), but then it turned out that the culprit was a homeless man who decided to spend the night inside, and his cigarette set everything on fire.

The Golden Ring model railway. In size it is inferior to both Grand Layout in St. Petersburg and Tsar-Layout" in Moscow (not to mention the Hamburg's MiWuLa), but it is still fine.

Lots of things levitating.

Putin riding a bear.

There is a shortage of domestic model trains in Russia. Deutschebahn comes to rescue.

And some Yaroslavl outskirts. On the southern border you can see the Kokovtsov estate (18th century). The condition is not the best, but it seems like they are taking care of the building, and there is a cultural center inside.

Stucco molding.

Trying to venture the pre-revolutionary buildings of the Yaroslavl Electric Locomotive Repair Plant during the special military operation in Ukraine is a so-so idea, but next to it there is an old courtyard with a creepy sculpture of a pioneer woman.

Body of the electric locomotive VL8-876. Before the collapse of the USSR, it was operated in Azerbaijan and was sent for repairs to Yaroslavl, but in 1991 the unified network of the Ministry of Railways of the USSR collapsed, the Azerbaijanis did not pay for the repairs, and the plant workers took the building as a shed.

In the north-west of the city, on the road to Rybinsk, there is another old enterprise: Norskaya Manufactory. The factory is operational, but there are a number of old buildings around. First, the water tower.

Second, the red brick barracks.

Manager's house with a turret.

Getting there (as of November 2023): M8 highway from Moscow by car (from 4 to 6 hours depending of traffic). The fastest way to get to Yaroslavl is the train from the eponymous terminus in Moscow.

Where to stay: Ibis hotel in the city center.

Where to eat: The Mili restaurant near the main train station (be sure to order the soup with a special serving). Best coffee shop is "Prosto coffee" on Trefoleva street.

What to buy: local cheese in the Syrnaya birzha shop on Pervomayskaya street.
