Vyazma

A city in the Smolensk oblast, which was repeatedly torn apart as a result of wars. From the large Vyazma Kremlin, only one fortress tower remains.

Monument to the Patriotic War of 1812.

Holy Trinity Cathedral and the staircase down to the main square.

Seems like Vyazma had been recently hit by a hurricane, church domes were shaken, and the spire of the cathedral was torn apart.

Mural against the mobilization.

Bebrya River.

Peter and Paul Church (1805).

Some houses near that church

A cat.

A local granite company and the monuments for children's graves.

John the Baptist Convent with the famous Odigitrievskaya Church (1638). Its three tents correspond with the Holy Trinity.

A nun (as it is a convent).

The house on Dokuchaev Street, where Napoleon allegedly stayed in 1812.

And the dormitory of the religious school is next to it.

The St. Catherine Church at the local cemetery.

Getting there (as of July 2023): take M-1 highway from Moscow or any train to Smolensk or further to Belarusian towns.

Where to stay: The Amphora hotel is not excellent but good enough for a night.

Where to eat: The Okolitsa restaurant is arguably the best on the highway between Moscow and Minsk.
