Belarus. Synkovichi

 

A small village in Grodno oblast close to the town of Slonim. It is famous for the church-fortress of St. Michael the Archangel built in 16th century.

 

Don't let the Gothic view to fool you, this church is Eastern Orthodox, not Catholic.

 

Belfry built in 19th century obstructs the front view.

 

The storks made their nest on a special platform on the dried tree.

Getting in (as of April 2023): no viable public transit options. You can drive from Baranovichi to Slonim and then to Volkovyssk. The right turn Synkovichi is properly signed. The entire district is occupied by military training grounds, don't even try to turn from the road into the forests.
