Three places (mostly abandoned villages) in the Arkhangelsk oblast in the vicinity of Kargopol, where you can find old wooden churches.
The wooden tented Church of the Nativity of Christ (1745) is unusual: it has a large apse, but there is no refectory at all. Fresh scaffolding gives hope that it will not be allowed to collapse completely.
Removed old head.
Nearby is the Church of the Intercession (mid-19th century).
The Forest Raised a Christmas Tree.
Getting in (as of August 2023): 10 kilometers to the East from Kargopol towards Nyandoma.
Saunino (now Zalyazhye) is a village four kilometers north of Kargopol. The tented wooden church of St. John Chrysostom with a bell tower was built here in 1665.
If you're lucky (or if you arrange a visit in advance), you can get inside - the temple is a branch of the Kargopol Museum. Inside, painted ceiling or "skies" and the skeleton of the iconostasis have been preserved.
