旅人る - Tabibito

Rogovo, Kochigino, Pavlovskoe

Three villages in the Velsky district of Arkhangelsk oblast. Rogovo and Kochigino are actually one settlement.

Rogovo, Kochigino

The wooden St. Nicholas Church (1877) is slowly decaying. In the photographs of 2018, it still had a bell tower. In summer, the ruins are protected by thickets of nettles.

Just a hundred meters away stands an absolutely stunning wooden residential building, built at the end of the 19th century by the peasant family of Burakov.

The owner's initials, paintings in the form of lions and unicorns, as well as ornaments.

This part of roof of the traditional Russian houses is called "Kuritza" (chicken).

Outbuilding.

Other houses in Kochigino. Mostly they look sad.

But some are inhabited.

Very, very, very many blueberries in the forest nearby.

Pavlovskoe

A village with good old houses.

The St. Nicholas Church (1851-1858) is in rather poor condition. But its bell tower was repaired in 2012.

The clergy house.

For some reason, the locals call Pavlovskoye and the surrounding villages “France”.

Views of “France”.

Getting in (as of August 2023): all three villages are on the road from M-8 near Velsk to Kargopol. To get to Rogovo and Kochigino you need to turn a little to the side. No public transit access whatsoever.
