Saminsky Pogost

 

A village in the Vytegorsky district of Vologda oblast. Worth visiting for a very beautiful and slender wooden Elias Church (between 1692 and 1702).

 

It looks especially good from the other bank of the Samina River.

 

Nearby are the ruins of the Tikhvin Church (late 19th century), which collapsed in the 1990s. They were even fenced off with ribbon.

Getting in: No major cities nearby. The village is not far from the Vologda - Medvezhyegorsk highway near town of Vytegra.
