A town in Vologda oblast on the shore of Beloye lake (literally White lake in Russian). The lake is really white.
The XIX century channel built for circumventing the lake which has powerful storms.
Only the ramparts remained from the medieval fortress - kremlin.
Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior (1668) inside the kremlin.
Most of the houses are wooden. Among the most beautiful - house of Pozdynin.
And a house of another local merchant Kalinin. Now just one or two tenants left.
One of the tenants.
Another Belozersk cat waiting to be let into the pet shop.
Old marketplace.
Various brick houses.
Intact churches.
And abandoned ones.
Church doors.
Barrack like housing.
In general, this is what an ordinary Russian outback looks like. A lot of decay, but there are also cozy corners.
Getting in (as of February 2023): the direct road from Vologda is available only in summer as crossing of Sheksna river requires ferry. The road from Cherepovets is good. The public transit is available but damned.
