Nelazskoe

 

A village in Vologda oblast near the giant steel Severstal factory. It is famous for a wooden Assumption Church (1694). But at least till 2024 it will look like this.

 

Newer and not restored St. Michael's Church (1895).

 

Presumably a clergy house.

 

Former all-in-one building of the collective farm administration, post office and a library.

 

It is being skillfully cut into firewood.

Rotting issues of the Soviet magazine Sobriety and Culture. Alcoholism was a huge issue in Soviet Russia. And in modern Russia too.

 

Getting in (as of February 2023): Take a road from Vologda to Saint Petersburg and miss a turn to Cherepovets. The highway is pretty dangerous so take care.
