Pushchino

A town in the southern part of Moscow oblast and an important scientific center of the Russian Academy of Science. Here you can look at the radio astronomy observatory with 1 km long telescope array.

It looks rusty and used to have a cross array of the same length, but it was looted for copper in the 1990s. However, the telescope functions and even makes some discoveries.

Former hotel closed for refurbishing.

The town is named after Pushchino-na-Oke manor. It used to be one of the most luxurious noble estates in the Moscow region; films about tsarist times were often shot in it. But now the best thing that has happened about it is a new roof, the money for which was raised by donations.

Former lions.

Getting in (as of January 2023): take a direct Simferopolskoe highway from Moscow and turn right after crossing Oka river. The ride will be about two hours. Transit options are available from Serpukhov rail station.
