A town in Samara oblast, the perfect destination for the one day trip from Samara. It is quite easy to explore, the main attractions are located along Sovetskaya street.
All the architectural styles of pre-revolutionary Russia are represented here: eclecticism.
Art Nouveau.
And neoclassicism.
Sterlyadkin's mansion (1915) - now the wedding hall.
The house of the merchant Revyakin with a sphinx.
Patriotic rides on the eve of WWII Victory Day.
Sovetskaya Street ends at the Syzran Kremlin, built in 1683. Almost the entire fortress was dismantled, only the tower and the Nativity Church were preserved.
From the Kremlin hill, on one side, there is a view of a new riverside park.
On the other side, to the railway bridge towards Saratov and the Syzran oil refinery.
Some sights in other parts of the city: Chernukhin's mansion on Smolina street.
An abandoned old mill.
A newer Soviet flour mill with the damaged inscription "Glory to Labor".
Impressive egg tray ceilings in the abandoned house at Karla Marksa, 20. Perhaps it used to be a music studio.
Details in the center.
Someday historians will wonder if a headdress was obligatory for women in the USSR, like a hijab in Iran.
Syzran cats.
Steam locomotive L-5193.
Railway station.
Riveted bridge across the railway tracks (1905) near the station. It’s beautiful, but the stairs are clearly not intended for the passenger flow of arriving trains.
Getting in (as of April 2023): the train is the most convenient way to get from Samara to Syzran, since the nearest automobile crossing over the Volga is through the Zhigulevskaya hydroelectric power station. As a bonus, there will be stunning views of Volga.
Where to eat: The Toro Rosso restaurant at Ulyanovskaya street, nice coffe at The Beliy Kot coffee shop on Sovetskaya street.
