Pavlovo

A village in Vsevolozhskiy district of Leningrad oblast, just few kilometers to the east of Saint Petersburg. In 1926 this place was chosen as a building site for the laboratory of the Institute of Physiology led by academician and Nobel prize laureate Ivan Pavlov. He was most known for his experiments with dogs, so who knows how many of them were vivisected here.

The most interesting building is the Laboratory of Higher Nervous Activity (1934).

Facade inscriptions.

Preparation for the defence.

The building of the laboratory of nervous system morphology.

Greenhouse.

A couple of houses for the professors.

The houses built in 1930s for ordinary scientific employees are abandoned or in disrepair.

There was also the house of Pavlov himself, but it burned down in 2017.

Charles Darwin looks at the Pavlov's house ashes.

Late Stalinist houses.

The new laboratory building (1960) seems to have been simplified compared to the original design.
