In the past, Mikulino was the capital of a medieval Russian principality. Now it is just a small village in Moscow oblast, with a mental hospital as a primary enterprise. Hillfort remains, in the center of which stands the magnificent church of the Archangel Michael (1559).
It was built in memory of one of the governors who served Tsar Ivan the Terrible, and who came from the family of the Mikulino dukes.
Near the church I was lucky to see the caterpillars hatching.
They will later grow into lackey moths.
Church's cat rolls in the dust.
An old communal barn built early 1910s from reinforced concrete. A very rare building material for Russia at that time. It was actively used in the USSR only since 1930s.
Getting in (as of May 2022): there is a decent road both from Tver and Volokolamsk. Two or three buses a day from Moscow Tushinskaya metro station.
Where to stay: only local residents and patients of the psychiatric hospital stay here for the night.
Where to eat: snacks in Pyatyorochka store.
What to buy: nothing really.
