Lodeynoye Pole

A town in Leningrad oblast which is named after shipyards built here by czar Peter the Great. It has nice views of Svir river.

Drawable automobile-railway bridge.

Lodeynoye Pole itself is often the first stop of cruise river ships coming from St. Petersburg. But from here tourists are usually taken by bus to see the Alexander-Svirsky Monastery.

The first thing passengers see after arrival is the weird St. Nicholas Chapel, stylized as a sailboat. It has been standing unfinished for more than 10 years.

A well-maintained embankment on the site where Peter's Olonets shipyards used to be located.

Yellow wagtail.

Shipbuilders' Square.

Newly built “House of Peter I” with a museum. Obviously, it was copied from a similar Arkhangelsk house, which is now located in Kolomenskoye in Moscow.

The only pre-revolutionary house near the embankment.

Rogue dogs who have just been expelled from the local supermarket as a result of a special operation.

Getting there (as of August 2023): about 3 hours ride from St. Petersburg by car or a train from Ladozhskiy railway station.

Where to stay and to eat: luxury hotel "Tochka na karte" to the east of the town.
