Unremarkable barrack-like houses on a hill on the banks of the Neman river have recently been transformed and received the appearance of a castle, as it was in the 16th century. More precisely, how the restorers imagine its appearance at that time.

I was sure that the Union of Poles in Belarus was expelled from the country after the 2020 riots, but seems they were not.

In general, a beautiful city with cozy streets and parks.

 

You can walk off the beaten path and enter the old cemetery (near the central bus station).

Getting in (as of June 2022): direct M4 highway from Minsk, the railway is very slow.

Where to stay: Semashko hotel on Kalyuchinskaya st. Another hotel of this chain on Antonova st. is much worse.

Where to eat: Muravjeff restaurant on Sovetskaya square, Forno pizza on 1-st Trudovaya st., great coffee at Prosto kofe on Davida Grodnenskogo st.

What to buy: large grocery stores like Korona or Euroopt highlight the local products on the shelves.
