Belarus. Pruzhany

Another small town in Brest oblast. Not to be confused with neighboring Ruzhany, where the big palace of the Sapieha princes is located. There is also a palace in Pruzhany, but much smaller. It was built in the 1840s and belonged to the polish gentry family of the Shvykovskys.

They even invited an architect from Italy.

An incomprehensible bench-oven in the palace park.

Even a cat is puzzled.

Pre-1917 Russian and interwar Polish buildings along the Sovetskaya street.

Such house would definitely not have been built in Soviet Russia in 1930.

Mid 19th century orthodox and catholic churches.

A very beautiful shopping arcade (1867).

It is used both for trade.

And as a living space.

The coat of arms of Pruzhany depicts a snake devouring a man.

The poster on the wall compares the barricade scene from the 2020 Belarusian protest and a view of Minsk hockey stadium and saying "Build, don't break"

Navigation signs for a very long bike route which goes from Kamenets through Pruzhany all the way to Minsk and Borisov.

Getting in (as of June 2022): Pruzhany is situated near Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. One should cross the forest areas to get here. I definitely won't recommend to use all those roads at night as a possible encounter with an elk or bison can be fatal. There are buses from Brest, but they are infrequent.

Where to stay: in Brest.

Where to eat: few venues with not-so-high rating on Yandex maps.

What to buy: never heard about any specialties.
