Suzdal is a former capital of medieval Russian principality. It was preserved during the soviets as an open air museum of the old Russian architecture. In 2023, if a high-speed road is brought to Vladimir, it will be possible to get here from Moscow in two hours. In the meantime, getting here is painful. Bell ringing lessons are advertised on the fences.
Another recruitment ad offers a glimpse on the local salaries: the manager of the funeral home is offered 15 thousand rubles monthly ($250) and 2% of sales.
Goatlings roaming the museum grounds.
Two viewing points shouldn't be missed. The former is located on the Pokrovskaya street and offers the view of the entire town center.
The latter is near the Gasteva street. Intercession Monastery.
Monastery of Saint Euthymius.
Typical views of Suzdal: churches, wooden and stone houses, belltowers.
Modern entrance to the stadium.
A cat with an unusual color.
On May 9, the central street of Suzdal was blocked for the parade. It is far from being as pompous as it is in Moscow or regional centers. Firefighters, policemen and members of the children's movement in support of the Army "Yunarmiya" marched here.
Where to stay (as of May 2022): my friends praised the hotel Suzdal with recreated interiors of the 1970s. It is located on the outskirts though. Any accommodation with a high rating may worth a try.
Where to eat: it is hard to say. You can probably eat at any decent looking cafe.
What to buy: Suzdal is famous for its medovukha (alcoholic beverage very similar to mead) and sbiten (hot beverage that can be a good tea additive).
