Saint Petersburg

See also: the previous report (April 2023).

A bit of modern Russian church architecture. Here is the temple of the holy righteous warrior Theodore Ushakov on top of the supermarket.

Road to the temple.

The entrance is not from the street but from the backyard.

Another example: the Cathedral of the Descent of the Holy Spirit on Dolgoozernaya street. It's not finished yet. The architect is Maxim Atayants, better known for a number of unfinished development projects in Moscow oblast. The colossus is impressive with its size. And as the huge windows in the drums are covered with decorative bars, it all starts to look normal.

On the one hand, the materials don’t seem to look cheap, but on the other hand, a lot of mistakes have already been made during construction, the cladding has cracked, and the most problematic areas were simply sealed with polyurethane foam or secured on top with metal brackets.

The interior begins to take shape.

Fortunately, in the central part of St. Petersburg, a new temple building is not required: it is enough to repair what already exists. For example, the Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Mercy on Vasilyevsky Island which was used as a factory building.

Nearby, the hipster den continues to metastasize on the site of the Sevkabel plant. It is very crowded on weekends.

The parts of the plant that were previously closed are opening up for free access.

For those for whom Sevkabel is no longer enough, Brusnitsyn was built in a former tannery next lot.

The building of the Institute of Macromolecular Compounds of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is a pity that history has not preserved the name of the builder who came up with the idea of so beautifully displaying the year of completion of construction on the parapet.

Fire depot on Bolshoy Prospekt.

Other views of Vasilyevsky Island. It became difficult to film them without a courier on an electric bike being included in the frame.

The apartment buildings on the banks of the Chernaya Rechka.

River traffic.

Ships flying Maltese flags are loaded at the port.

Urban details.

Yards-wells.

The new trolleybus.

And a final look at the local cats.

Getting there (as of August 2023): tollway, high-speed "Sapsan" or overnight trains, frequent flights — anything you like.

Where to stay: Nash hotel on Vasilyevsky Island.

Where to eat: Pizzeria Castelsardo.
